From the Andes to the Jungle

4 to 6 DAYS TRIP

After leaving Lima and arriving to the central Andes we will ride down to the jungle, on a ride that descends nearly 4,000 mts of altitude. Then, we will spend a couple of days in the jungle of Chanchamayo valley.

Season: From May to October.
Average Stats: 50 Km day ride average / 4-6 hours riding time. Terrain: Gravel roads

About the place:

Our destination, was one of first places in the Peruvian jungle that colons try to enter, from the first Spaniards, then the priests, with no real success until the arrival of europeans inmigrants at the second mid of the 19th century. Originally were inhabited by the Asháninkas tribes. Today is a huge mix of different cultures in this very productive land.

The Spots:

Valle del Mantaro: The biggest Andean valley of Peru, located in the center of the country. 3400 masl average.
Chanchamayo: Known as the Central Jungle, is the nearest jungle by ground from Lima.

Important: The trip to the Central Andes is made by van. It takes around 8 hours. Optionally you can get there on a regular commercial flight.

As a tailored trip we are open to discussing any request about your biking expectations.
Trip with private transportation:

Day 1: Road trip from Lima to Jauja for around 7-8 hours. Leaving Lima at 6am we could be there 3pm. Hotel in San Jerónimo (3,400 masl).
Day 2: Shuttled to Molinos highlands we start the full day ride down to the jungle, highest point is around 4600 masl and arrival in San Ramon is around 700 masl. All the ride is on gravel road, mostly downhill. Hotel in San Ramon.
Day 3: Ride at Chanchamayo jungle highland valley. Hotel in San Ramon.
Day 4: Road trip back to Lima.

Extensions:

Option on Day 3: Shuttled near to Puente Paucartambo to ride up to Villa Rica, capital of the Peruvian Coffee. Lodge in Villa Rica (1,500 masl).
Day 4: Ride from Villa Rica to Yurinaki (500 masl) across the jungle. Back to San Ramon in the afternoon.
Day 5: Road trip back to Lima.

Option extra day in the Andes: Ride in the Mantaro Valley.

Full Extension:
Last day, on the way back, we turn to Pachacayo village to ride in the Nor Yauyos Andean Reserve and after climbing near the 5,000 mt we will descend to Tanta village at 4,600m.
Day 1: From Tanta we will ride down to Tantaranche, Quinti and finally arrive to Huarochiri.
Day 2: From Huarochiri shuttle to Escomarca and begin the ride to Antioquia and Lima.

OUR CONDITIONS:
Any broken or damaged part of the bike or equipment, made intentionally or not, caused by riders or terrain issues must get paid back at commercial prices (ex: frame, levers, gears, derrailleur, tyres, wheels, helmet, gloves, etc).
Any injury caused by any reason during the ride is fully responsability of the rider and any medical or transportation cost must be covered by the rider. This is an adventure sport activity subject by its nature to any kind of non expected events.

What to bring:
Try to bring your equipment.
Depending on the level any ride is no less than four hours, so you must carry at least 1 or 2 Lt of water, some snacks and fruits.
A wind vest or a couple of layers if it rain, on highlands use some winter clothes and sunscreen.

Some important travel notes:
We supply private transportation but partial support during the rides.
Weather in Andes highlands and jungle are not predictable and can makes us change the schedule.

Seasons:
Recommended the dry but not the coldest season it means: May, June then September, October, November. July and August it may snow at the summits blocking the accesss to some roads.
