Caral, The Valley of Pyramids

Riding back to 5000 years of history is the main goal in this valley located in the north of Lima. Two days for a couple of rides, one riding up along the valley to visit Caral citadel and the next after visiting the new discovered site of Peñico we will ride down across the desert to get Vichama the third amazing ancient construction located in the coastline. This is a trip that mixes history and nature.

Caral, The Valley of Pyramids

Riding back to 5000 years of history is the main goal in this valley located in the north of Lima. About the Place:

Caral citadel is 5,000 years old and represents in the history timeline, the first organized civilization in America, the place where the Andean culture started. Discovered, cleaned and recovered now we can see some impressive pyramidal buildings that were covered by sand for three thousand years.
But that´s not all, places as Peñico and Vichama, a thousand years younger fulfill the experience of traveling in time.

The Spots:

Caral: 5,000 years old citadel, fisr civilization of America.
Peñico: 3,500 years old village in the high valley of Supe.
Vichama: 3,500 years old fishermen village in the coast of Supe.

All year available

This is a dry place available to ride at any month, the only issue it may have is during months of rain in the Andes, rivers come with strenght, producing some floods or cutting roads, so when planning in these months take note the possibility of these issues.

What to bring:

Try to bring your basic equipment: helmet, gloves.
Any ride with stops is no less than three hours, and support is limited some points, so we recommend to carry at least 1 Lt of water, some snacks and fruits.
A wind vest or a couple of layers on winter days and a lot of sunscreen in summer.

Suggested Itinerary:

Trip is tailored to your average of riding, is open to make arrangements in third party services and distance of riding days.

Day 1: Leaving Lima at 6 am or earlier to reduce time in the city and to be around 10 am at the starting point in the valley of Supe River to arrive at the hotel (500mt/1640ft) in the afternoon. On the way, we will see many ancient constructions and visit Caral (350mt/1150ft).

Day 2: We will begin the day near 8 am riding to Peñico (600mt/2000ft). We will visit the archaeological site and then, we will start to ride down to the hotel and few minutes after continue to the coast to Vichama archaeological site, lunch and return to Lima. Arriving at night.
NOTE: The time for visit of Caral and Peñico sites will depend on the hour we arrive to places. 

INCLUSIONS: Mountain bike full suspension or hardtail (as available), helmet and gloves. If you bring your biking shoes we can include SPD pedals. Private transportation. Lodging.

NOT INCLUDED: Meals or any personal spend.

Any broken or damaged part of the bike or equipment, intentionally or not, caused by riders or terrain issues must get paid back at commercial prices (ex: frame, levers, gears, derailleur, tyres, wheels, helmet, gloves, etc).
Any injury caused by any reason during the ride is the full responsibility of the rider and any medical or transportation cost must be covered by the rider. This is an adventure sport activity subject by its nature to any kind of non-expected events.
