The Cactus Trail

The bikers option for those who like to climb on non very technique trails.
Is a very classic route mostly used during the months when the city is covered of clouds to reach a sunny weather but can be done any day of the year. Endurance is the key for this destination.

Recommended for:
Non singletracks experts but with some ecperience and trained for an endurance ride. Way back is fast by singletracks.

All the year.

Riding time:
4-5 hours approx.

About the Place:

El Huayco de Tinajas is a dry river bed located near Lurin River, south from Lima and Cieneguilla. Is a very dry place where vegetation is practically none.

About the Ride:

Ideal is to start from Cieneguilla (C). After a couple of Km we will leave the main road to pick up a road that turn to the Andes, and after 6Km more climbing, we will pick up the trail that will continue inside the dry river bed to reach the Cactus after 12 more Km (D).
Get in mind that there is no supply during the ride, so you must get prepared with at least 2 Lt of water, some snack or fruit with carbs and sugar and good layer of sunscreen.
Around 20K and 1000mt of climb.

Take note that for this trail we must start as early as we can, being at the starting point at 8 is quite enough late, better before during the summer months of january to march.

What to bring:

Try to bring your own basic equipment: helmet, gloves.
2 Lt minimum of water, a windvest or a couple of layers in winter days unless you choose a longer ride. Snack or fruit, w/carbs and sugar. Sunscreen.
